Dallas Songwriters has provided opportunities for it's members and area venues to work together for mutual benefits. DSA has provided original music in many venues around DFW.
PERFORMANCE
Open Mics - DSA hosts a monthly night at a venue where songwriters show up and sign up at the venue to perform their original songs. Venues such as Poor Davids, the Balcony Club, Love and War, Opening Bell and many more throughout the years have benefited from the entertainment provided.
- DSA hosted it's longest running open mic on the third Thursday of each month from November 18, 2004 until June 18, 2020 at Dunn Brothers Coffee. Discontinued only because of the COVID pandemic.
- DSA implemented a Zoom open mic each Wednesday night 7-9 to continue our open mic tradition through COVID and beyond because Zoom enables songwriters from around the world to join us.
- DSA has continued it's open mic tradition on the fourth Thursday monthly with a Bring Your Own Mic Open Mic at Love and War in Plano.
- DSA has expanded the membership internationally.
Showcases - DSA continues to present the best of original talent for area venues and festivals with scheduled showcases monthly including State Fair of Texas, Poor Davids Pub, Love and War, Sons of Hermann Hall, Wildflower Festival, Deep Ellum Arts Festival and many more.
- DSA has provided 3 days of the best original talent at Deep Ellum Arts Festival and Wildflower Festival.
- DSA has managed the Courtyard Stage at the Wildflower Festival for more than 10 years.
- DSA implemented a Zoom showcase each Saturday afternoon 12-3 to continue our showcase tradition through COVID and beyond because Zoom enables songwriters from around the world to join us.
WORKSHOPS
- DSA has brought in the best hit songwriters to help our community of songwriters become better writers and performers.
CONTESTS
- DSA offers the longest running amateur song contest, annually since 1990.
- DSA has one of the few lyric only contests
- DSA is discovering new talent through our Young Songwriters Song Contest for 18 and under youth to compete for a performance spot.
NEWSLETTER
- DSA has published a monthly newsletter, Songwriters Notes, for over 32 years.
